The story
Sports of life is a platform I have created to share my interpretation of the stories of athletes, and also your take on their journeys. These stories have elements within them I believe a wide audience can connect with, and is something I have personally valued. My appreciation of the relationship between sports and life isn’t focused on one being a blueprint for the other, but in learning from the positive and negative experiences of the people who play.
The shot
Game 6 of the 1997 NBA finals between the Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz is remembered for Steve Kerr’s clutch shot which gave the Bulls an 88-86 lead, with five seconds to go. The significance of this shot relates to how Kerr perceives it, and how it opened opportunities for him in the future.
Willpower
In 2001, Serena and Venus Williams became the first sisters to reach a Grand Slam final since Maud Watson defeated Lillian Watson in 1884. Today, Serena is a grand slam away from tying the all time record of 24 and is arguably the greatest tennis player of al time, while Venus’ 7 grand slams sees her ranked 12th.
Student of the game
Henrik Larsson was born in 1971 in Helsingborg, Sweden, to a Cape Verdean father and Swedish mother. Following their split when Larsson was 12, they decided their son should adopt his mother’s maiden name to help him fit into a majority white city and country.
Is there any athlete/sportsperson you relate to and would like to discuss?
